Star Wars: Squadrons Steam Fix Black Screen and Link Origin Account

If you are like me and recently picked up Star Wars: Squadrons because it was on sale on steam and are just now finding out it's not the smoothest process to get running then hopefully some of this information will be of use to you. If you are experiencing just a black screen then you may have to try one of these fixes:

Fix one Launch it in windowed mode with a command line argument.

To do this right click on the game in your steam library and click on Properties.

In the general tab you will see a box called Launch Options, you can put specific launch commands in here. To have the game default to windowed mode type in the following. –windowed and then exit the properties window to save the changes.

If this doesn't work you can try typing in –windowed -w 1920

Changing the default width of the window to 1920 or whatever width you would like it to use.

Fix Two Disable DPI scaling in the compatibility mode settings. To do this right click on the game in your steam library. Move your mouse to where it says manage and in the new tab click on  Browse Local Files.

This will bring up the folder that contains the Games executable file. Right click on this and click properties and once that has loaded click on the compatibility tab.

Select Disable fullscreen optimizations and then click on Change high DPI settings.

Select both the Program DPI and the High DPI scaling override box. Then click okay on the DPI setting window and then again on the StarwarsSquadrons Properties box to save your changes. Relaunch the game and check if the black screen has been fixed.

Fix Three Set your desktop's scaling to 100%. Its possible that having it set to anything but 100% can cause issues. To change this setting go to your desktop and right click on it. Select display settings. This will open the display settings. Scroll down until you see the Scale and Layout options. Make sure this is set to 100%. if it isn't already set to 100% the computer may take a moment to make the changes to your screen. Do not be alarmed by this as once its stopped you can exit the display settings. Try relaunching the game and see if it works.

Once you have fixed the issue with the black screen you may still be having issues with the game not launching properly and giving you an Error Code 4,975.

To fix this you will need to link your steam account to an origin account. One way to do this is to create an origin account in a web browser and then install origin. If you already have an origin account but do not have it connected to steam you can also link them by installing a separate game that uses origin. For instance if you install Sims 4 it will then have you install origin and when it loads it will ask you to log in to your origin account to link it with your steam account. If you do this you can then exit out of Sims 4 and when you log in to Star Wars Squadron your account will now be linked and you will finally be able to play the game.
